HOT SHEET TRENDS & QUALITY OF LIFE SERIES

Three Rivers Realty Hot Sheet
Quality of Life Series
Brunswick County, NC
September 18, 2008

Bald Head Island is our feature for this month’s Quality of Life Series – a look at what makes life here different from where you live now.

A 15-minute ferry ride from the Southport waterfront, Bald Head Island is a wonderful combination of maritime forest, wide beaches and intriguing salt marsh. There are no cars on the island. Guests and homeowners get around at a leisurely pace on golf carts, providing instant lower blood pressure from the noise and traffic of everyday life. Homes are carefully planned to fit with the landscape and environment, with many different architectural styles reminiscent of Maine, Cape Cod, Nantucket, the New Jersey shore and North Carolina’s Outer Banks. The combination, though, makes Bald Head its own kind of place. Spend a day exploring Bald Head Island’s place in American history, spend a day at the beach, enjoy a waterside lunch or explore for the perfect vacation home on one of the jewels in the crown that is quality of life in Brunswick County.

Update on Oak Island Bridge
Brunswick County, NC
July 30, 2008

Construction of Second Oak Island Bridge

Along with "why the sky is blue," one of those curious child-questions is how a bridge gets built into the water. Okay, maybe it's not just a child's question! The engineering feat is amazing, and more than a passing interest to those of us who live in Brunswick County.

This photo of the so-called "second" Oak Island bridge was just taken and yes, indeed, the project is right on schedule. What does that mean? It means great property opportunities for both homes and land near the bridge on Oak Island, making Wilmington and Myrtle Beach even closer when you choose to leave paradise. It means another access for those who live in Seawatch, St James, Riversea and other plantations.

Now is the perfect time to buy. Why? Because the prognosticators predict a turn-around just as the bridge is finished, and the prices will start going up.

And by the way, the blue of a Carolina sky defies description, but who cares. It brings such a sense of wonder and well-being that we don't really care why it's blue!

50 Best Small Southern Towns

Southport in the Spotlight. . . Again!
In the second edition of the popular book by Gerald W. Sweitzer and Kathy M. Fields titled 50 Best Small Southern Towns, Southport was once again named as one of the top 50 small Southern towns. Criteria such as recreation, cultural housing, employment, and education were considered. Click here to see a video from one of our local news channels shot in Southport in which longtime residents, new residents, and visitors to Southport are interviewed about this.

Brunswick County Makes the Cut
Brunswick County remains in the top 20 fastest growing counties in the United States. It moved from 14th last year to 17th this year -- 17th out of 3,077 counties in the United States. (Myrtle Beach Sun News, March 20, 2008. "Population Flowing in for Brunswick, Horry.")

Home Sales on the Rise
According to the National Association of Realtors, sales of existing homes rose in February for the first time since July. Sales were up 11.3 percent in the Northeast and 2.5 percent in the South. (Reuters, March 24, 2008. "Existing Home Sales Post Surprise Rise.")
